Election Day Membership Letter
10/28/2008

Please remember to vote on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 is Election Day. This election may be one the most important elections in recent memory. The economy in the United States is in crisis. This is being felt in the Chicago area in the construction industry. Our Local is currently experiencing a high rate of unemployment. The choices that we make in the voting booth in this election will have a great impact on the economic situation. I encourage you to vote for the candidates that support organized labor and the agenda of working families. When working families vote, working families win.

The United Association was the first International Union to support Barack Obama for President. The U.A. made this decision because Barack Obama has always fought for working people throughout his career. Senator Obama has solicited the U.A. for their views on the issues that are important to our unions and their members. Senator Obama is also a resident of the City of Chicago. He understands the needs and concerns of the people in the Chicago area.

I have enclosed a list of the candidates that have been endorsed by the Illinois AFL-CIO for your information. If you choose, you may take this list into the voting booth for reference. The Illinois AFL-CIO has the labor voting record for all incumbent members of Congress on their website. The web address is www.ilafl-cio.org. I recommend that you review the voting records ofyour elected officials before you vote.

I encourage you and your family to please vote on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
